6 Popular Shopping Malls To Shop Till You Drop in Batam

Batam offers many shopping malls across the island. The whole island is “Duty Free”, so prices is considerably cheaper compare to Singapore. Where to buy, what to do and what to eat? The malls and most shops are open from 10.00 am to 9.00 pm every day and are normally open throughout all public holidays. Mind you, Prices are fixed and you cannot bargain. Usually visitor tend to buy Kueh Lapis and bird nest as it is 50% cheaper compare to Singapore.

From what I experienced, some malls might not be Grab/Gojek friendly, and they will not pick up passenger since it is controlled by local taxi drivers. You might want to consider chartering a car and driver to save the hassle.

Here are all the recommended Batam shopping malls.

1. Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall

Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall

Nagoya Hill, not to be confused by a hill in Japan, (I think it gotten its name from WW2 Japanese occupation) is the biggest shopping mall in Batam. It is divided into two different dividers and one would easily spot the eatery street when you are there. They categorise all food and beverages at one part and on the other side would be apparel, handbags and souvenir stores.

The basement has a Hypermarket selling everything from food, clothing and electronics. You could stock up a month’s worth of groceries, toiletries, and daily necessities. Since Batam is very close to Singapore, goods in Nagoya Hill is kinda alike with Singapore. They do have some snacks that are unique to Indonesia. Electronics product like DSLR Cameras, Digital Cameras, Mobile Phone, Gaming Equipment, Computers  are also available. You might wonder how do claim warranty? Not sure myself.

Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall basement

1st Floor Nagoya Hill Food Street provides a wide range of food & cuisine. There is a variety of fast food like KFC (the chicken is relatively smaller as compare to Singapore, and that’s because the KFC here uses Kampong Chicken), vintage A&W and Pizza Hut. And also the restaurants that are popular in Batam is Solaria (Chinese Food), Happiness Restaurant (Indonesian Food) Also available specialties from various regions in Indonesia such as, Padang Food, Meatballs (bakso), Chicken Noodle, Soto, and others. Not to mention Korean and Japanese food.

There is an arcade center on the third floor. With 1 token that cost 1000 rupiah (10 cents), you can keep playing and dying and never run out of lives. I was stuck there for 3 hours playing. LOL

7 Batam Seafood Restaurants That’s Cheap (I Love No 3!)

In Batam, there is a saying, “give a man a fish he”ll say wa so fresh ah” Famous for its seafood, lets dig right through all the yummy Batam seafood. For those hard to access area, like Kelong seafood restaurant, you may wanna consider chartering a car and driver to save the hassle of waiting for taxi.

Harbour Bay

Stretch of seafood restaurant by the sea located at Harbour Bay Terminal

A stone throw away from Batam’s Harbour Bay terminal, is a long stretch of restaurants and bars by the sea. The areas sells live seafood, sheesha and drinks. It also has a beautiful sunset and some restaurant with live bands playing. Stroll down and enjoy the sea breeze, its a good place for gatherings.

We tried 3 restaurants in this area, recommended by our friends and first up is “Wey Wey”.

1. Wey Wey

Wey Wey Seafood Restaurant

This place is great! The food as “cheap affordable”! It is so nice we described it using the same words twice”. It’s highly recommended by Batam locals. One of my favourite fish is their Fried squid with salted egg yolk. Nothing says fancy like eating squid with multiple things done to it to make it taste better. The chilli crabs is very affordable and they added a little twist to the chilli crab sauce. The steam grouper is fresh and tender as well.

Must try: 2 Crabs is only for SGD 34, 1 steamed and 1 chilli crab! HIGHLY recommend to eat with fried mantou, I was almost licking the last drop from the plate. Salted egg yolk fried squid about SGD 5 + Steam grouper SGD 20+

2. Jumbo Seafood

Jumbo Seafood Tom Yum soup

Jumbo Seafood is Thai food with a Chinese twist! What more can you asked for. We think the Thai and Chinese food mix came from the owners of the restaurant. They couldn’t agree what type of food to sell and both owners need each other’s money!

Try the fried fish skins or scales as normal people will call them. Jumbo Thai Kitchen features two VIP rooms and a live band that can be booked upon request. A lot of business people come here after work to unwind. The taste is authentic that’s because one chef is Thai and another is Chinese. The Chinese chef just to work in a 5 star hotel restaurant. The standard is upheld by the dishes he serves.

Must try: Tom yam soup 700g Sri Lankan black pepper crab, a 600g Harbour Bay style steamed black garoupa, 1 large plate of hot chilli mussels, 1 medium plate of sambal kangkong, 4 bowls of rice, 2 cans of beer, and 1 coconut, the total cost came up to around SGD$65 (Special takeaway requests for their famous fried fish skins!)

Harbour Bay Seafood Tom Yum soup

This Indonesia- Chinese mashup is one of my favorite. The menu has pictures because most people cannot pronounce the fresh ingredients on the menu. I recommend the the Black groupa and especially the cripsy baby squid. The taste is balance, and the chilli is OMG! Harbour Bay Seafood Restaurant is also a popular wedding venue. It offers a variety of setting for diners, including a private VIP experience too! Wedding by the sea in Batam, anyone?

Must try: Black pepper crab, Crayfish and the Crispy baby squid.

Next stop, out of Harbour Bay Area, we have Sumber Rezni. It is one of the many live kelong seafood restaurants in Batam. You don’t get that in Singapore. We love the fresh food and unique ambient here. We recommend the prawn or green chili chicken depending on what animal you have a taste for.

5. Barelang Seafood Restaurant

Located around 30-40mins drive away from the main Nagoya city center in Batam. We love this restaurant, mainly for the view overlooking the iconic Barelang Bridge and four other islands in the horizon. Enjoy the sea breeze if you choose the spacious open-air dining hall with capacity for up to 1,500 people.

View from Barelang Seafood Restaurant

For an exclusive experience, a fully air-conditioned VIP room with karaoke facilities is also available. There is a monkey guarding the restaurant’s kelong named Melissa, it was adopted from a neighbouring island as an infant and loves eating coconuts! We ask how Melissa how she think about the food and I think she prefers coconuts.

Barelang Seafood Restaurant food

The live seafood are keep in nets in the sea and patrons get to choose who to execute if they stare them the wrong way. We recommend the fresh lobster, it taste great and you don’t get this kinda prices in Singapore. It’s like tiger prawn pricing, but you are getting lobster.

6. Kopak Jaya 007 Kelong Seafood Restaurant

Kopak Jaya 007 Kelong Seafood Restaurant walkway

Another kelong restaurant, this particular one is remote and hard to find and the name of the restaurant come from bad brain storming session, lol.  Go Instagram crazy as it has an amazing sea view overlooking Barelang Bridge and a nice old school new school mesh up vibe to this place.

Colourful interior - Kopak Jaya

It’s interior is beautifully decorated with colorful shells and hanging dreamcatchers. They have a comprehensive menu with crab, shellfish, slipper lobster, prawns, squids, oyster as well as Chinese dishes and traditional Indonesian seafood plates, such as Ikan Stim, steamed grouper in a spicy turmeric sauce.

Kopak Jaya food

They keep the fresh seafood in nets under the restaurant so the slipper lobster can’t slip away. The lobster taste great. (Man, how can go wrong with lobster) It is our favorite dish by the way! Get the turmeric sauce and spread it on everything!

Must try: Lobster, steam groupa and shell fish.

Rates: About $25 per person for a 10 person meal with crab, crayfish, squid, prawns, fish and lobster.

7. Kelong Restaurant 188 Citra Utama

Kelong Restaurant 188 Citra Utama

With free range chickens running around, this seafood restaurant has a rich kampong vibe to it. If I was a chicken, I would think why I am hanging out at a Batam seafood restaurant (not sure why), but it beats spending the day with KFC Colonel Sanders.  The chicken greeted us as they nodded their heads, multiple times! Super polite, lol.

Kelong Restaurant walkway

Reaching the main wooden building that housed the reception of the kelong restaurant. Further in (yes, more walking is required) is the seating area; unlike seafood restaurants in Singapore, you don’t get the overcrowding feel where tables are literally side by side and you have a good chance of bumping into the chairs of the neighbouring tables. The dining area is extended out into the sea.

Live fish food section Kelong Restaurant

Next to the floating platform is the live seafood section; the above picture actually showed the physical link between the fixed and floating sections. The seafood is as fresh as it gets.

7 Fun Outdoor Activities in Batam That You Are Look Forward To

The thing about Batman is that if you take out one “n,” and move an “a,” you get Batam. Think that’s a coincidence? We don’t. That’s why think Batam is an action location for active people actively looking to do active stuff in active ways. Who needs a couch when you have real life coral reefs to snorkel, fresh jungle trails to bike, blue waters to wakeboard? Not you. So unless you can standup paddle board that floating couch of yours, get up, get out, and go Batman in Batam.

1. Pulau Petong

Pulau Petong

Did you know that snorkel comes from the German word schnorchel, meaning underwater? Did you care? Maybe not, but if you have any interest in snorkeling or schnorcheling, head to Pulau Petong, because everyone — German, linguists, and people who have plastic mask fetishes — knows that this is the best place in Batam to get face to face with fish to fish (did you ever notice that fish have no necks? They’re just faces that become bodies. Weird, huh?).

Kayaking Pulau Petong

You’ll see stingrays, clownfish, stingfish, nasi lemak fish, clown rays. If it’s in the water, and look-at-able, you can look at it here. Snorkel on, my friends.

Nemmoooo, you here bruh

Other activities includes scuba diving, kayaking, banana boat ride & fishing.

Accommodation: 8 cosy private rooms built atop a kelong in between the nearby Twin Islands. A very spartan communal room is available on Petong island, within Petong village for larger groups. Note: it is a Bintan-kelong styled room with bunker beds.

Travelling time from Singapore to destination: Approximately 4 hours

Want to get yanked across a lake at high speed by a metal cable, doing tricks and waving to your favourite fish, while your sedentary friends sit on barstools, sipping Mai Tais and taking bets whether you have a job or whether you just live on algae and alcohol? Then Cable-Ski is the cable ski park for you. Well, it’s the cable-ski park for everyone, because they probably couldn’t stay open if you were their only customer.

And you aren’t. And you won’t be. Because they’re packed with people who wakeboard, wakeskate, slalom ski, and do barefoot nude acrobatics while shouting out the names of their favorite teachers from Sec school! Okay, no one is doing that. Yet. But it’s coming. As should you be — coming to Cable-Ski. Because it’s just fun.

3. Batam wakepark

If you’re going to wakeboard, you probably want the best place to wakeboard, right? No one wants to wakeboard in that pond behind that industrial park, the one that’s green and kind of looks like cottage cheese with eyes in it. No one wants to wakeboard in that other lake, the one a little too close for comfort to the industrial pig farm.

No, you want Batam Wake Park, the 5-star park perfect for beginners, non-beginners, and those people who do air tricks because they like to show off their perfect abs and smiling white teeth as they leap through the sky like featherless eagles in Speedos. (Just joking about the Speedos, don’t wake and thong, that’s a solid rule). Batam Wake Park. Bring your lust for adventure. Leave your thong at home.

4. Mata Kucing Forest

Rope bridge Mata Kucing

How much forest do you need? I mean, in general? Give me a round estimate. How about 200 acres? Would that be enough for you to stretch your hamstrings, hike some zaggy trails, commune or blow kisses to monkeys, gibbons, and monkeygibbons? Then you should bop to Mata Kucing Forest, and get your rain forest on. Oh, you won’t come unless there are tropical plants? Fine. They have billions. And you have to walk a rope bridge over waters filled with massive Arowana fish? You’re pretty picky, but that doesn’t matter, because they have that, too. And more. As your guide will show you.

Mata Kucing forest

This place is also known as a mini zoo. However, the sensation is not the same with any other zoos, since this mini zoo is much more natural.

Other activities that can be enjoyed by visitors are flying fox, hiking or hill trekking, and swimming surrounded by many trees hence makes you feel like swimming in the middle of a forest.

5. Waterfall in the forest( Telaga Bidadari Waterfall)

Don't go chasing waterfall

In the rainy season, when it rains (and it does that a lot, hence rainy “season”), you can’t just sit at home, looking out the window, afraid you’ll melt. What you can do is head to Waterfall in the Forest, to the absolute sparkling experience of the magic that water becomes when it flows around a green world, sliding into shallow streams, working through fallen trees, and spilling over rock ledges.

Telaga Bidadari waterfall

If you don’t like waterfalls, what do you like? Don’t answer that, because if you have an answer to it, we don’t really want to hear it. We want to walk, and listen to the sound of water, rushing, rolling, cascading. You hush. We have a water symphony going on here.

Drak Bike Park

Drak Bike Park isn’t just an awesome bike park, it’s a collection of really hard consonants that are just fun to say (go ahead, say it, give your tongue a treat).

Drak Bike is also the best place in the world to meet Stewart Ong. Much better than places where Stewart Ong isn’t. Because where he is, and where he’s been for 20 years, is at this park, carving out a massive network of trails, and playing the ultimate host for bikers looking for both day and overnight bike adventures.

Farmtrails, lake shore trails, inital d drifting, well-maintained and wild, Drak Bike has it all. And Stewart knows every inch. As will you. One inch at a time.

2019 Top family activities in Batam that makes you go wow

Okay, if you’re looking for a family day out — and I know you are, because who only wants family days in, that’s a recipe for arguments about arguments about other arguments — then you need to hit six — yes, six! — places in Batam that will get you out of your comfort zone and into your fun zone. If you can hit all six in one day, you’re the awesomest family in history. If you have to spread them out, and still hit all six, then you’re the second awesomest family in history. Either way, do these, and awesome will ensue.

For families, especially a large group, highly recommended to charter a car since some areas are control by local taxi drivers and you could not use Grab or Gojek.

We tried to take a family picture at the beach, the result was unexpected

1. Sea Forest Adventure Park

First up, Sea Forest Adventure Batam, a 10 hectares park filled with many outdoor activities. We tried the Aqua Adventure Track. It’s like how we would have to play if the whole world turned to water like in that movie about the whole world turn to water, what was it called again (Waterworld. Yep.) It’s like the Olympics meets a bouncy house, with guards to keep you from drowning (that’s a plus). I wish the whole world was an Aqua Track. Turn on all the bathtubs, see if we can make that happen.

Just like the movie Waterworld.
Mangrove Cruise on a love boat
Paint ball, good for company retreat

There are other activities like Mangrove Cruise, jet ski, Banana boat, canoeing, Snorkeling, Flying Bike, paintball, Practical Shooting, bubble soccer and many more.

2. The Illusion

Second stop, do you like to look weird? Like, even weirder than when you first wake up in the morning? Then we’ve got the place for you. The Illusion. The whole place is a series of skewed rooms designed by local artists who want to get you to see things a little (make that a lot) differently.

You can stick to walls, grow up (some of you need to), or down, you can dance like Michael Jackson (yes, even Dad, and his complete lack of rhythm or body control can do it).

3. Funworld Nagoya Citywalk

You’ve still got energy after waterworld and illusion world, so hit up Funworld. Located inside Nagoya Citywalk, this is a child-friendly mini-amusement park (so much more fun than the child-unfriendly ones, where they knock the ice cream out of your kid’s hand and untie his shoes).

It is not spinning that fast

There are indoor roller coasters and bumper cars (those two are separate rides, although how fun would it be if there were roller coaster bumper cars?). There are carousel swings and carnival games (like “Guess If Your Carney Has a GED!). Go. At the very least the lights will mesmerize the kids, and you’ll get a few minutes of peace while they’re dazed.

Exhaust your kid so you could sleep at night

Houses build for kids

It contains 30 exact replicas of traditional Indonesian homes, all the way down to the mother-in-law complaining that they aren’t clean enough! Seriously, a great way to get fast history into the kids’ brains, while also making them feel huge, and who doesn’t want huge-thinking kids (Honey, I Huged the Kids! Darts, for adults.

The fifth stop might just stop your heart, because there is way more excitement at Belalang Adventure than at Belalang Non-Adventure (which is a really, really boring place, so don’t go there, even if it did actually exist, which it doesn’t.) Camping, paintball wars, jungle treks, obstacle courses, water bikes — and that’s all before they let you eat breakfast! Nah, you can eat breakfast any time, although you may want to keep the bacon out of the paintball, the enemy can sniff that stuff out, and then your goose is cooked. Can we get any more food analogies stuffed into this exciting review? Probably. But lettuce just say, a day at Belalang Adventure and your entire family will be fried.

Except you haven’t seen it all. You haven’t seen or gone Mega. And mega means Mega Wisata Ocarina Batam. Over 40 hectares filled with rides gone wild. A waterpark, a go-kart circuit, endless sites to see, and the grand attraction that is going to gawk and gasp the entire family, the giant wheel of 16 gondolas that rises 25 meters to show you a view of this amazing park that should only be available to sea gulls or flying seals (there aren’t flying seals, but it would be cool if there were; maybe sometime in the future).

Ultimate Batam Destination Guide

Overview

Batam is an island and city in Riau Islands Province of Indonesia, known for its free trade zone area as part of the Sijori Growth Triangle. It is located 20 km (12.5 miles) off Singapore’s south coast. This 1,595 km² island has a population of 944,285 (2010).

The official language on the island is Indonesian, and due to the sizeable Chinese population, Chinese languages including Teochew, Hokkien and Mandarin are also spoken.

The indigenous community of Batam are ethnic Malays and they speak Malay in the Riau-Lingga accent which is also the accent of the Malays in Singapore and the Malaysian states of Pahang, Johor and Selangor.

Beginning in the 1970s, the island underwent a major transformation from a largely forested area into a major harbor and industrial zone. The island’s economy benefits from being close to Singapore, and, with lower labour costs and special government incentives, is the site of many factories operated by Singaporean companies. Shipbuilding and electronics manufacturing are major industries on the island; there are also several resorts and tourist destinations on the island. At the end of 2010 almost 58 percent of foreign tourists came from Singapore, followed by Malaysia at 13 percent. Most of the foreign tourists entered Batam through Singapore using ferry services as Batam has limited international flights.[3]

Tourist arrivals in Indonesia increased by 11.24 percent year-on-year to 1.29 million people in October of 2018 from 1.16 million in the same month a year earlier. Bali was the main destination (516 thousand), followed by Jakarta (243 thousand) and Batam (141 thousand).

Considering the first ten months of the year, tourist arrivals grew 11.92 percent compared to the same period a year ago to 13.24 million. Tourist Arrivals in Indonesia averaged 832831.29 from 2011 until 2018, reaching an all time high of 1536489 in July of 2018 and a record low of 548821 in January of 2011.

Under a framework signed in June 2006, Batam, along with parts of neighbouring Bintan and Karimun, are a part of a Special Economic Zone with Singapore; this zone eliminates tariffs and value-added taxes for goods shipped between Batam and Singapore.

Timezone

Batam is 1 hour behind Singapore time.

Many resorts and clubs provide water sport activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, speed boating, windsurfing, snorkeling, canoeing, and much more. The Waterfront City is also a perfect spot for you to enjoy a seafood lunch or dinner.

Top 10 Cafes in Batam that are Instagram worthy

1. Anchor Café and Roastery

We start our glide through the Batam cafe scene with Anchor Cafe and Roastery. In a word, “pretty food.” Okay, that’s two words, but they both fit. The details make this place, and they nail it, from the perfectly topped cupcakes to the perfectly roasted gourmet coffee beans (which, by the way, are roasted on site by their very own miniature dragon, and, okay, not true, but I bet if you asked them for dragon-roasted coffee, they’d do their best.)

Anchor is started by a American expat who likes southern food. The portion is big and tasty, they made it American size. The coffee is roasted in house and the beans are ethically source thoughout the different regions in Indonesia and Asia.

On the weekend, you could spot a big expat gathering and you realise there is a big community over here. It’s a good hang out place and we spend hours away talking to people from different background.

They should have named it The Sails, or The Albatross, because there’s nothing Anchor-y about this place. It’s light and breezy. Maybe the Anchor means you will feel like staying there forever. Which you might. I did. Even though I didn’t.

2. Chemistree Cafe

Chemistree Cafe

One of Batam’s best kept non-secrets, Chemistree Cafe. A two-floored coffee and eatery. So, basically, everything-ery. And all done well, very hipstery, comforty, and woody (lots of wooden beams and trees and plants, which is cool, although you’re kind of showing the trees their dead cousins.)

Chemistree Cafe interior

The place makes a nice instgram post and many influenceer is spotted always in this cafe. They have live music at night. Also done well. Music-y. I hung out and ate and sipped on both floors, and was… ( can I say “floored”? I mean, I know I can, but will you just quit reading on me if I do? I’m taking the chance). I was floored. Go. Pick a floor. Or pick both floors. Or start on the upper floor and repel down. They won’t care. They’re too busy making great coffee and awesome food.

3. Sum Craft Tea Cafe

Pounce Cafe

So the first thing about Sum Craft Tea, it’s in a Mall, and you’ll probably think, “No way a mall has a solid cafe,” and you will be — wait for it — wrong! How’s that feel, to be wrong? It feels wrong, am I right? Located in Bayfront Mall in Harbour Bay Terminal (Beside KFC and in front of the taxi stand ), Sum is co owned by a Korean Owner intending to bring the korean vibe and flavour into their Boba Tea.

House Car Mr Jingles.

Been there on the weekend and it is really crowded. Serving different types of Boba and fruit tea, be sure to their their Signature Crunchy Brown Sugar Series. Their pearls are specially infused with Gula Melaka and Brown Sugar. Very different from your usual ones back in Singapore.

Matcha Berry Marble Latte is really good. The Strawberry and Matcha blends so well together with their transparent pearl topping.

The black Charcoal Fresh milk, which you don’t find in Singapore but really popular in Korea is really good too. All their milk tea uses fresh milk.

Must try: Crunchy Brown Sugar Milk Tea ( 3 SGD+ ),  Charcoal Fresh Milk ( 2 SGD +) and Matcha Berry Marble Latte (3 SGD +).

4. Roasteree Cafe & Roastery

I’ll say this about the Roasteree — they like their art big! If you have four hours to kill, go through every piece of the mural behind their stage, it’s gorgeous, it’s worth it, and it’s big! The ambiance is what makes RC&R, it’s got a darkish, Edgar Allen Poe on a laptop feel that I appreciated.

But there’s also the contrast of the live entertainment on the rooftop, which is pure jam, and the bands they pick are always spot on. Plus, they use the word “roast” twice in their name! You can’t get more roasty than that. And they have a sign that says, “Sorry, No Internet. Talk to Each Other.” Perfect. I like my coffee with some snark in it. Well done, roast roast.

The Tea Box Cafe is a place your Mom would love. Do you know why? Because it was founded by eleven — yes, eleven! — mothers, who combined their absolute best recipes and motherly motherness to create some of the greatest food you’ll ever find at a cafe. Their Squid Ink pasta tasted so fresh with the right amount of spice. Their Cannelloni have a hearty soulful taste to it. (I don’t even know what that is, and I’m too lazy to Google it.) Also, there are also sorts of motherly sayings and advices painted on the walls throughout the TBC, and none of them make you feel guilty

One Dozen Café

Next up, go crab crazy at One Dozen Cafe (not sure how you go crab crazy, maybe you run around making pincher hands, covered in butter — hey, it’s your meal). Seriously, the seafood is so fresh it will wink at your Dad and kiss your Mama. The chilli crab has its own unqiue Indonesian taste to it. Affordable, well-presented, and comfy, One Dozen serves great coffee, and there’s alcohol in the alcoholic drinks! Come on, get crabby. You know you want to do that pincher hand thing.

What’s a pirate’s favorite coffee? Who cares, they’re pirates, they’re not supposed to have it good! But you are, and you will at Hook Coffee. Nautically themed all the way down to a see-through floor with crocodiles beneath your feet! Okay, that does not exist, and besides, there are no sea crocodiles, you should know that.

Hook Coffee Shop

But you know what there is at Hook Coffee? Black Pizza with Carbonara Sauce. Sorry, Carrrrrrrbonara Sauce. And there are awesome coffees from Flores and Mandheling and other sundry exotic locations. 8. My Garden Restaurant Cafe & Bar

Let’s talk open air. Let’s talk views. Let’s talk greenery and design and comfort and enchanting garden surroundings. Let’s talk My Garden Restaurant Cafe & Bar, perhaps the most unique eatery and drinkery in Batam. Read the reviews, they’re absolutely effusive, like verbal flowers opening at sunrise in praise of the experience of this lush cafe.

Take a perfectly modern and well-planned cafe and drop it into the middle of a well-manicured jungle. And then drop you in for dinner, lunch, or drinks. And then we’ll airlift you out, back to your hotel, where you can tell everyone of your time in a magical place that was half-nature and half-restaurant. Maybe they’ll believe you.

Batam Local Brewery craft beer

1. Brewsky & Co.

Local Brewery and Craft beer

Ask 20 people their favorite brew house in Batam, and you know what you’ll hear? “Hey, stop asking all of us about brew houses, enough, already!” But before you overdid it, you know what you would have heard, a lot? “Brewsky & Co.”

Brewsky has been solidly ensconced as a Batam beer destination for way longer than you’ve been asking for recommendations. As the night goes on the crowd grows, but it never feels crowded and the craft beers are always flowing. There’s plenty of entertainment with multiple big screens, and plenty of good times to be had. At Brewsky’s. Just ask someone. But keep it below 20.

2. Fresh Beer Batam Centre

Fresh Beer Batam Cenre

If you don’t believe that Fresh Beer Batam has fresh beer, then you’re very hard to convince. Because the bar is surrounded by wooden kegs and silver brew equipment, and the beer is flowing from taps, and people are way into drinking it. So, what’s your problem? The. Beer. Is. Fresh. And the ambiance is black and white, clean and stark, nothing to hide, just like a beer shop should be.

Oh, and beyond the beer, some of the most exotic dishes you can exoticize in your exotic brain. Mouse Deer Meat. Rattlesnake. Kitten Soul Soup. (Okay, made that last one up, but I bet it would be smooth.) And then, if all that isn’t enough (it is, you should be convinced by now), they’re famous for their Green Beer. Or, as I like to call it, Kermit’s Tears.
